I Confess, I Celebrate Valentine's Day

I had 3 Dove chocolates and a medium vanilla latte for breakfast this morning.  It's no wonder I've gained 5lbs in the last 2 months.

I went to acupuncture on my lunch break yesterday and for the first time in weeks, I slept though the night.  I'll definitely be going back for some more voodo magic.

I have the queeziest stomach ever.  D had a mole removed yesterday and asked me to put Neosporan on the spot this morning (it's on his back).  I almost barfed at the thought of it .  On that note, I'm also known to throw up pretty much anytime I have more then 3 cocktails.  I don't even have to be drunk.  It totally sucks.

You guys totally shamed me into retunring my cart at the grocery story on Sunday.  Who says peer pressure doesn't exist.

I celebrate Valentine's Day.  Now don't go getting all crazy on me.  Infact while we're on the subject can somebody please tell me why so many people REALLY hate V-Day?  I mean shit, I hear the "you should treat your love with kindness everyday of the year", but lets be real.  That doesn't always happen and I don't know about you, but I like the reminder and the chance to be a little extra sappy.  Besides, there's something about eating chocolate out of a heart shaped box that just makes the chocolate taste so much better.

With the exception of yesterdays post, I've either hated or half assed the stuff I've put out this week.  I'm not proud of it so I think I'll be taking a few days off to regroup.

I got the highest possible rating on my yearly review at work this week. I felt proud for a minute, and then immediately shifted my thoughts to "where's the money".  That quickly became "why the hell can't you just go for meets expectations" for once in your life.  Can somebody please assisinate the overachieving critical part of me?

Confess away friends.  XO

  1. acupuncture IS MY JAM. it cured me of my carpal tunnel that plagued me for years (and 3 surgeons recommended surgery but i was like, ain't nobody got time fo' dat!) AND whenever i screw up my muscles from training, my acupuncturist does needles and cupping and fixes me up in ONE DAY.

    thanks for linking up!

    1. Amazing results for sure! This isn't my first round of acu but like most everything, once I'm "fixed", I stop going. I went for a year straight for a tare in my knee, like you, two docs wanted to operate. He'll no! I stopped going for a long time after my knee started feeling better. Oh how I've missed it. No joke, I slept like a baby last night. Soo glad it worked for you too, and this linkup is pretty much the holy grail of lineups for me so consider me all in :)

  2. I keep hearing good things about acupuncture, and apparently there's a community acupuncture clinic in town, so maybe I should give it a try.

I get lazy about shopping carts too, but to be fair, at one of our Fred Meyer's, they seriously messed up the parking lot by putting two returns in one row, and then none for a few rows, so it's really a pain to take it back (and can be dangerous given how crazy some people drive through the parking lot).

Confession: my reader numbers are down, but I don't care. And even though I'm single, I'm looking forward to V-day as an excuse to treat myself extra special with good food, wine, and a movie and dog cuddles.

    1. Rachael, thank you so much for confessing here :). Why not treat yourself on V-Day. I think I'll take myself out to lunch! You've definitely got the right idea. As for readership, mine's never been very big so it might be easier for me to say this, but I really don't care about the numbers anymore. With that said, there are about a dozen or so people I hear from pretty regularly, and if they went away, I'd be pretty sad. Outside of myself they're what keep me going. On that note, thank you so much for your comments here. They mean so much.

  3. I've been wanting to try acupuncture for my migraines but kind of nervous!

And I would totally gag about a mole- in fact, I just did.

    1. Aw, Kate. So sorry to have made you gag!!!! You told me to go to the blogger brunch and I'm going. This is me telling you to try acu. I don't think you'll be sorry you gave it a go :)

  4. Ahh Shannon, I have missed you! I totally get the feeling of needing to regroup and had a little stint offline last week. It done me the world of good! I don't know how you do it! This blog and working your ass off in your day job - you totally deserve some of those Nordstrom goodies! I don't think it's in your nature to be average. Ever.

Chocolate is my weakness too - I really need to get on the wagon again (after valentines). Glenn baked me an ice-cream cake for my birthday on Sunday and I've been eating pretty much a slice every day since! Sooo bad. How's cooking going?

I like Valentines too - as you say you totally don't give your other half your devoted love and attention all year round - it's impossible! Being with someone is more than that it's helping each other with the daily struggles, the stressful times in work etc and knowing when the other needs space/time to do their own thing. Valentines, though heavily commercialised these days, is the perfect reminder. Though it falls 4 days after my birthday so I often get the "this is for your birthday and valentines" tried on me - eh no! lol

I hope you and D have a lovely Valentines and enjoy the peace of being offline for a few days :)

    XO

    1. Sarah, a HUGE happy birthday to you. I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating your special day :). Seriously if I knew myself as well as you know you when I was your age. Watch out world! I'm so proud of you for taking a few days to enjoy and live life. Thank you so much for the Valentine's wishes. Sending them right back to you! Xo

  5. There really are a lot of V day haters; my husband included and after last year-I'm over it!! But I see nothing wrong with enjoying a little extra sweetness on that day. And I totally love chocolate for breakfast. It's really too bad it's not considered a balanced meal because it just goes so well with coffee.

  7. Oh my gosh, YES to that last one. It's like wait a sec, I busted my butt and that's all you've got? Sometimes a pat on the back and internal satisfaction just aren't enough!

I also like V-Day. Hate going out for it but I expect a card and I usually get a little treat for my husband. Nothing crazy.

    1. Lauren, thank you so much for stopping by! And I couldn't agree more, going out on V-Day is definitely a no no. The crowds are ridiculous!

  8. congrats on your good review! I also celebrate V-Day but not in the over the top way that most people do. I just can't imagine not celebrating the love you have in at least a small way. We will probably rent a movie from RedBox and grill up a steak at home because I refuse to get out with all the crazies!

  9. Yay for taking your cart back-now we can be friend again :) I thought the "Hustle" post on Sunday was great (but maybe that counts as last week?) and who doesn't enjoy some cute cat time...come on now. Congrats on the great review, you should feel proud about it! You don't have the personality to half-ass it at work and only aim at average...I suspect it would more draining on you to try aiming at average as it is to be the overachiever.

    1. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I could have written the book of the year last week and I would have thought it sucked. Burn out, bad attitude etc. Having the last few days off has done wonders for me. Gotta love a long weekend! D and I are planning a few days in Vegas in May and I'm planning a long weekend in San Francisco in August. I'm going to invite a few girl friends but if nobody wants in, I'm going anyway.
