The Power Of Choice

Last week when I wrote this, there was this little nagging voice inside my head saying "don't do it. write about what you're grateful for instead."  I clearly didn't listen to that voice, but I'm glad to know it exists.  It's important to cultivate it, to make it stronger and to soften some of the other more negative voices that seem to take center stage more often than not.  Today, on a semi-bad day, I'm going to give it a try here.  Perspective is everything after all isn't it?

I'm so grateful for:

My job.  I may not be doing what I want in life (which is, I don't know), but I'm good at what I do and it pays the bills.

My man who gets me and who doesn't try to change me and all of my in-perfectness.  Ninety percent of the time he takes my mood swings with a grain of salt and he remains the calm balanced person I need him to be.  Super blessed in this department.

My trip to Las Vegas in 47 days!  Hotel booked, dinner reservations made, facial scheduled.  It's going to be a good one.

The flight I booked this weekend to San Francisco for a girls weekend in August.

My baby Beeps who turns 10 this month.

The amazing chicken tikka I had for lunch today.

Black coffee, especially if it's served in fine china on a lazy Sunday at home and it's accompanied by some breakfast chocolate.

Garbage t.v. like the Real Housewives of anywhere and my newest find Southern Charm.  There's nothing like crappy reality t.v. to get you out of your own head.

The friendships I'm building here.

The beautiful sun that is still shining at 6:27!  Remember guys, I don't drive at night so this is freedom for me.

My new little Buddha gifted to me today by a co-worker.

Being childfree and getting to go to bed super early tonight to make up for the time change and staying up too late last night.

I guess the key is focusing on the things we're grateful for rather than the things that are disturbing us right.  What are you grateful for today?

  2. Love your list! It really is the simple things that make us the most grateful isn't it? I love that it's lighter later too...my husband and I were out running an errand just before 7 and it was still light. There may be hope for spring yet (as I'm trying to ignore a winter storm watch for my area on Weds.and Thursday!).

    1. Anne, you're dead on. I definitely think I'll be starting my week with a grateful post going forward. It's such an amazing way to teach myself to be more positive and I love reading other peoples, so hopefully people will love reading mine too :-). I'll be crossing my fingers that the storm blows right past you or at least that it's the last one for the season. Have a great day.

    1. Yes, to being positive. Always easier when you have a few great trips on the horizon. Now if only I could learn to be positive when things weren't going so well :-)

I would absolutely love it if you came to the states, I could be your tour guide! I'll keep an eye out for that rich guy for you.

Have a super fantastic day miss Sarah. Hugs

  4. It is good to practice gratitude- I think it lifts the mood. I started keeping a little notebook that I write in every night- I list 5 things I'm grateful for that day (mainly the highlights of my day), as well as 5 things I need to do the next day (because otherwise those thoughts keep me from falling asleep). Some days, I'm really reaching for 5 things to be grateful for, and other days, I'm overflowing with things. But it's nice to remind myself.

Beeps looks like she might want her own Instagram account- she's kind of stealing the show.

And amen to being lighter later! It was great to get home from work at 6:30 and take my dog for a walk.

    1. Beeps definitely stole the show didn't she? She's such a sweet girl.

I love your idea as not only doing a list of grateful but a list of things that you need to do for the next day so that your mind doesn't run thinking about them all as you're lying in bed, that's brilliant I used to keep a journal but give up on it when I had a rough patch because coming up with five things I was grateful for proved to be incredibly difficult. I may give it a go again. It's so important and even in my worst moments I have more than five things I can be grateful for, it's all about having the right state of mind.

Have a good day sweetie Rachel.

  8. What a cute picture! Beeps is definitely diva all the way ;) It's nice to try to focus on what we are grateful for and I try to remind myself of that too. Trips always make me feel better...I like having something "big" to look forward to. I was dragging all day yesterday...and still had trouble getting up today...but I LOVE the time change too. Yay for more sunlight.

  9. I love so many on your list! Vegas, Chicken Tikka, Childfree lifestyle. It is always a wonderful thing to think about what you are grateful for so that you can deal with the crappies. The glass really is half full even if we sometimes just see it as half empty.
